Some supercars have much more than a stunning exterior design, a powerful engine, and an outrageous price, some supercars also boast a pretty cool door design making them amazing in every single way… Hey, this is the ‘Top 5ive’ and today we’re counting down the most awesome ways to open a door ( of a car, of course ).
5IVE – BUTTERFLY DOORS
The ‘butterfly doors’ is a pretty cool design usually seen in supercars as McLaren F1 ( above )… this door design is featured to open moving up and out via hinges along the A-post… remembering butterfly wings.
Beside of McLaren F1 some other cars boast this door design such as the McLaren P1, 12C (coupe and spider), Ferrari Enzo, LaFerrari, Saleen S7, Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren ( the coupe and roadster ) among others …
4OUR – GULL-WING DOORS
The gull-wing doors, unlike of butterfly doors which have the hinges at the side, the gull-wing doors are hinged on the roof… Opening upward evokes the image of gull’s wing.
The Mercedes-Benz 300SL was pioneered, but as you know, some other supercars use this door design… as the Gumpert Apollo, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as well as the “God of Wind” Pagani Huayra showed above among others.
3HREE – CANOPY DOORS
This door design is used by the insane Lamborghini Egoista ( above ) and the design is featured to sit on top of the car and lift up in some way, which resembles with aircraft canopy.
2006 Saab Aero-X concept car, 2005 Maserati Birdcage 75th concept car, 2002 Volkswagen 1-litre car are some cars that use this door design besides of Lamborghini Egoista.
The most famous door design, except for the standard one, of course… The Scissor doors open upward, this one rotates vertically due a fixed hinge at the front of the door.
The first vehicle to use this design was the 1968 Alfa Romeo Carabo concept car, but the first production car to use it was the Lamborghini Countach, which made this door-type a “trademark” of Lamborghini.
The scissor doors are well-known as Lamborghini doors or Lambo doors, but as you know, just the V12 variants use Scissor doors as the Lamborghini Diablo, Murcielago, Reventon, Aventador, and Veneno.
But, the Scissor doors are not a privilege for Lamborghini V12 supercars, you can find this design on some other cars as the Bugatti EB110, Spyker C8, Spyder C12 Zagato, Vector M12 and W8…
1NE – RAPTOR DOORS
Raptor Doors use a system of dihedral synchro-helix making this design stunning and unique. Unlike scissor doors that, although well-known as Lamborghini doors, other cars from other brands use them… Koenigsegg hypercars are the only ones in the world with Raptor Doors… By the way, this door type was created by Koenigsegg.
