Audi has revealed the second generation of its R8 sports car ahead the official public debut in the Swiss show next week.
The 2016 Audi R8 is coming with new forms in its design, but very similar with the previous R8. The new-gen has a symmetric design with some revised parts — rear and front bumper more specifically. The grille has a trapezoidal design, the front air intakes, as well as rear vents, have a different form in comparison with the previous car, while the front bumper has new LED headlights. The famous side blades were removed in this model. The V10-plus version still comes with a rear wing.
Unlike the exterior, beneath the skin, the 2016 Audi R8 was reformulated. With the platform shared with the Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4, now, the Audi’s sports car is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine, which, in its base form develops 540hp while the V10-plus is able to pump 610 hp and 560 Nm of torque out. As result, the 2016 Audi R8 V10-Plus accelerates from zero to 62 mph in just 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 205 mph (330km/h).
Besides of power, the new R8 comes lighter thanks to a new aluminum and carbon fiber Audi Space Frame chassis. The 2016 Audi R8 V10-Plus has a dry-weight of 1454 kg (3205 lbs), which is 50 kg (110 lbs) less than the outgoing Audi R8.
Alongside the R8 V10 and V10-plus, Audi also will make available an e-tron derived. The Audi R8 e-Tron will boast 455 hp and 920 Nm of torque through the electric powertrain with range of 450km (279 miles).
