Alongside the second-generation of the R8 supercar, Audi presents the awesome race car which will hit the race tracks around the world… This is the new Audi R8 LMS.
Audi R8 LMS is built to 2016 GT3 regulations and even more than them. The new competition-spec R8 LMS comes with the most rigorous crash requirements for the LMP1 class, Audi Protection Seat PS 1 from the R18 E-Tron Quattro and still incorporates the emergency hatch Audi built in to its DTM racers.
Based on the new R8, Audi managed to reduce the R8 LMS weight in 55 pounds (24 kg), compared with road-going model, thanks to the lightweight spaceframe chassis as well as the substantial use of carbon fiber in the new components.
Such as the 2016 Audi R8, the Audi R8 LMS race car uses a new 5.2-liter V10 engine. Power stands at 584 horsepower… Equipped with a new six-speed sequential gearbox and an entirely new electrical system, this R8 yet boasts improved airflow and optimized aerodynamics.
We will see the Audi R8 LMS in its competitive debut at the Nurburgring 24-hour in mid-may 2016.
