Koenigsegg has just revealed its new, luxury-focused and most potent hybrid mega car (well, it is the unique) in the form it will hit the roads around the world. Meet the production form of the Koenigsegg Regera.
Presented for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show 2015 as a concept car, the Koenigsegg Regera is back to Geneva’s auto show after an intense period of development, testing and homologation for worldwide in its production form.
Koenigsegg worked so hard in the Regera that the production form has over 3000 changes in comparison to that concept showed at Geneva last year. But the efforts had results as we can see in the curb weight of the vehicle which is 1590kg (3505lbs), and this with all fluids, without it weighs 1470kg (3240lbs).
Although the weight is fantastic, the most attractive in the Koenigsegg Regera is the fact that it is a gearless vehicle. The Regera uses the patent-pending Koenigsegg Direct Drive system (KDD) which replaces the traditional combustion transmission and adds the benefit of the pure EV mode.
And, Koenigsegg has developed a clutch slip mechanism that uses the hydraulic coupling to convert torque at medium/high speeds during fast acceleration allowing the combustion engine to gain revs and power what give the sensation of the traditional downshift even without the traditional gearbox.
Although the Regera is gearless, it remains with the paddle shifts on both sides of the steering wheel. Well, the one on the left side is used to enhance the regenerative braking effect in recharging the battery pack while the right one activates the hydraulic coupling’s ‘downshift’ operation.
The Koenigsegg Regera uses an 800 volt, 4.5kWh battery pack, making the Regera the world’s first 800V production car.
The production form’s battery pack uses Formula 1 grade, hand built cells providing improved performance and regenerative capacity as well as saves 25kg (55 lbs) in comparison to the concept car.The Koenigsegg Regera is powered by a 5.0L twin turbo V8 engine and three electric motors producing together over 1500hp (1479 bhp) and over 2000NM (1475 lb-ft) torque

Thanks to the massive power and the considerable weight, the Koenigsegg Regera claims a sprint from 0 to 62 (100) in 2.8 seconds, 0-124 (0-200) in mere 6.6 seconds and 0-186 (0-300) in 10.6 seconds while the 0-248mph (0-400km/h) is estimated to be 20 seconds. Koenigsegg did not reveal the top speed yet.
As a good Grand Tourer, the interior of the Regera features optimum comfort and functionality.
The Regera features what Koenigsegg calls Autoskin, which allows the driver open the doors as well as the front and rear hood remotely via a remote control or the buttons on the center console inside the car.
Now the side mirrors fold automatically when the doors open to further increase the practicality of the dihedral synchro-helix door actuation system. Additionally, Koenigsegg fitted the doors and mirrors with proximity sensors to safeguard against the doors striking nearby objects while opening of closing.
The rear camera and side door cameras now work together with a forward facing camera for a birdseye view.
Inside, there’s also Apple CarPlay and Wi-Fi functionality as well as the seats feature heating and electrical adjustment with memory function.
