Earlier today, I posted an article with a teaser video of a new top speed record broken by the Hennessey Venom GT. Unlike what I thought, the Venom GT didn’t exceed the 270 mph of the previous record. Instead , Hennessey set a new record for open-top sports cars with a top speed of 265.6 mph (427.3 km/h) certificated by Racelogic.
The car managed to reach that speed with the top down on the 4.1 km (2.5 mi) long runway at Naval Air Station Lemoore.
The prior record for open-top sports cars was 254.04 mph (408.84 km/h) set by the Bugatti Veyron Vitesse at Volkswagen’s private test track, Ehra-Lessien, in 2013.
